OD-lockout

I have a 1997 CVPI w/OD-lockout button on the shift lever. Is it easier on the transmission, in city driving, to lockout the OD? 90% of my driving is city/local. The OD automatically kicks-down at 30-35mph, so it is going up-down, up-down constantly. Any info appreciated.....Tom

Either way will work. Whichever is more convienent for you. OD should not engage until approximately 35 under light throttle and normal throttle at about 42 mph.

For city driving I would not use OD. The only time I would use OD is 55+ MPH.

I have been worried that the constant up-down, up-down shifting of OD mode in city driving would be harmful to the tranny. I think I should lockout OD, and use only on highway. Thanks.....Tom

Driving in OD in city does hurt the tranny it prematurely wears out the OD Bands in the transmission. And what ends up happening is the tranny will keep going in and out of OD when it is not suppose to. And the only way to fix it is to rebuild the tranny.

Are you sure it is OD kicking in and out and not the lockup?
Like Way2old said it sould work either way.
And on normal throttle it should not kick in until you reach app. 40 mph.
Try holding a more steady throttle and see if that helps.

The tranny upshifts(into OD) about 38 mph, downshifts about 32 mph. I'm not a mechanic, but all this up/down shifting in/out of OD-mode can't possibly be beneficial to the tranny........Tom:screwy:
