1993 1.8l GT PROBLEMS NEED HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let me say first off that I am insanely frustrated with this problem. Any help would be great.

I have replaced the Velocity sensor, air filter and the whole distributor so far. It hasn't helped at all

The car runs perfect about 10 percent of the time. The other 90 percent it has this wierd problem. The car engine will idle at 1500 to 2000 rpms (way to high) all the time. If you give it gas it blows black smoke like it burning really really rich. It also chugs like crazy when you accelerate in anygear. The problem starts to go away at higher rpms. If you shut the car off while it is idlling rich at 2000 rpm it will not start again. It will just pump raw gas out off the tail pipe like its flooded. When I pull the power plug on the fuel pump the car will start ounce it pumps all the gas out of the cyclinders. then it will barely run and act like it is running on 1 cylinder. I have checked the 02 sensor and it checks out fine, but that doesnt mean that it some times does fail.. The throttle positiong sensor checks good. The computer velocity sensor was out of spec but the new one checks good. I am absolutely stumped me an my dad have worked on this for 2 months with no luck. The sprk is also very strong. My cruise control failed a while ago. I don't know if its related. I hope it helps. Any suggestions would be great. Check the air intake hose between the mass air flow sensor and the engine for any cracks between the folds. If this has a leak the engine will run like you describe.

I have replaced that hose as well. Sorry for not mentioning that. The one that was on there before had a huge crack in it, but it is fixed now. What else? :)

Have you checked the fuel pressure? Did you get it checked for codes ? Did this problem happen suddenly or was it after a service or repair ?
Also a far fetched very rare cause of drivability concerns can be a leaking diode in the alternator, to test unplug the alternator and see how it runs.
Check the engine grounds.

I haven't got the codes checked yet. The fuel pressure is ok. This problem had gotten worse and worse and worse over the past year.

This is a good one. Everybody just posts about there by pass valve.

This might be a long shot but I have a friend with a mustang and he was replacing parts under the hood and some how managed to go a peice of dirt stuck in one of his injectors. Same symptoms as you describe. What had happend was the dirt prevented the injector from closing all the way but because the currents from the injector was ok there was no problem detected by the computer. While the injector just poured gas in the plug would dround out and not fire.

Now heres the good part you can see i this is happening easly while the engine is flooded, as you describe, stop the car and wait for it to cool. Then remove your plugs and take a look. With feul injection there should be not feul in the cylinder if there is a puddel of gas or you can really smell it take out the injectors and see if you can get them cleaned or replaced.
