In-Progress: 1951 Chevy Bel Air

Since the '29 Rat-Rod is almost done, I started this AMT '51 Chevy today! I scratchbuilt the lowered chassis(lack of chassis). I think I will lower the front-end just a tad more! The rear part is perfect! The wheels in the last two pictures are the ones I will be using! This will be a simple and fast project!

ooooh love the 51-53 chevy, and I agree, lower the front a bit more and it'll be great. Can't wait to see the finish!

I`m with Zoom on the stance in the last two pics. I like both the Cragars and the period correct steelies.
What color are you going to use?

I'm sure it will be something dark! I seen a 1/1 '49 Ford that was two-tone, so maybe I will go with something like that!! Thanks for the feedback and comments!!

Nie man, Bel airs are sexy. Even with steelies, how is the AMT kit? I've seen it and thought of it plenty of times but knowing AMT...

from this:D I have such a similar taste about cars with

Got some color on this bad boy last night, Tamiya gold for the roof and Tamiya matte black for the body and interior. I will add bare-metal foil on all the trim. So don't ask why the color seperation is crazy! I will start the interior tonight, maybe a black/white combo w/ zebra skin!!!! The steelies I think are going to be painted.......................?

Looks great :sunglasse
I'd first try paint matching the steelies w/the same gold as the roof. If that's not wild enough, you might try a yellowish orange, a bright blue, bright lime green. Or cream color if you're not looking for so much color. Sometimes you just have to have the colors on the car and the whitewalls in place to make a final wheel color decision. Try one color on one side, another on the other and you'll get something cool.

Classic style wheels! You planning on leaving the gold the way it is, kinda half-cut into the black? Interesting style if so...

good work on the foil. I am still learning to use it as well. For now i just do small things like tailighta and interior. I dont want to ruin a good paint job with bad bmf. your bmf work looks great. I also love the wheels.......its like bam right in your face. keep the great work coming

Man I love a good day of modeling!!!! I really got alot done today! Here is an un-finished interior. Went with what little zebra-skin decals I had left! Two-toned the door panels and seats, next I will go back and detail paint the door handles and all the good stuff! This thing is coming along nicely!!

Since I now have finished the '29 Rat, I got back to work on the '51 Chevy! I got the decals done and this crazy looking interior wraped up today! The pinstriping decals are from the Revell '31 2-n-1 kit. The zebra skin decals are from SMS and I made a necker knob for the steering wheel. Hopefully I will have this one finished up soon!!

This will be the last of the updates for this build! Mated the interior to the chassis, then the body! Not much left to do. I shaved the molding off the hood and drilled some holes where the molding should be. Sprayed the hood red-oxide. I inserted straight pins with small heads in each hole then sprayed it matte black. I will go back with a rust wash to make each hole look rusted.

Are you planning to apply a subtle wash on the wheels? That'll make 'em pop right off the model. Hotrods like this shouldn't be too clean, but you already know that
