Civic Rice eXtreme.
Just kidding - I've heard a couple of different things like
Civic Renaissance Experimental and Civic Renaissance Model X.
I've always thought it didn't stand for anything but I've heard enough people say it stands for something so now I'm wondering...

I've heard "Civic Renassance Model X". Is that how you spell renassance? Sorry, I only use that word once every 20+ years or so. :) I'm only 24. Anyway, it gives a little flavor to the car, like when they started giving cars the GT title. GT = Grand Touring ( I have a GT mustang, one of the first to use the title ;) )
One last note. This is one of the most interesting questions I've heard the past few months. I actually spent some time researching this. Both translations apply as far as I can tell. Thanks for giving me a reason to look up the meaning of CRX.

Accually the T does not stand for touring. But see those are documented, if someone posts a document issued by honda, I will believe crx stands for something.

GT stands for Gran Turisimo, or Grand Touring, GTO = Gran Turisimo Omologato, most of those letter things mean something, usually in latin
