Drifting Video Games

Hi there!!!
So Grand Turismo 4 is supposed to be like the most realistic driving game ever made and yadda yadda. Can you change your car to FF, FR, AWD, RWD, etc, as well as tweaking all of the other aspects of your car which affect its ability to drift to make for an infinite amount of realistic drifting possibilities in the game? For instance, instead of spending money on a real car to drift, could I explore the physics of drifting and how various car modifications affect a car's ability to drift and get realistic drift angles and drift durations through this game? Most of the enjoyment I get out of drifting is seeing the car from third person anyway so I was wondering if this would be a cheap alternative for me. Does anyone know if there is ever going to be a Formula D video game? I want to feel what it's like to drift in Rhys Millen's car!!!!! And Sam Hubinette's car too!!! Oh and if anyone knows of other video games that have great drifting mechanics in general and could recommend them that would be great. Thanks!

well, i'll go ahead and piss of a certain few people right away and just say, gran turismo isn't that realistic, get out and drive a car, the game for sure is not the best drifting game out there, a small level up that is just a little bit more realistic would be forza, which you would be able to get rhys millen's car in, but its not that real either, but it still has some good things on it, most realistic for drifting that i've played is live for speed, its a small budget game from the uk, but so far, its the best racing, drag racing, drifting game i've ever played and it has multiplayer, only problem is you have a grand choice of about 15 cars i guess, which is supposed to change with the new release of stage 3 but noone knows when that will happen.

Well theres nothing like the real thing, but GT4 should give you a good idea of how a car would drift in real life. In fact it might be a good way to see which car you might want to buy.
Forza motorsports for Xbox is better than GT4:wink:

Huh!! Thanks a lot, I will check those games out! So does Live for Speed have the car customization and tweaking thoroughness of Gran Turismo? You sound like you know drifting though so I will definitely check that out to see if it will give me the simulated drifting fix that I crave. Forza Motorsports also! Thanks again for the recommendations!

well thats the thing, live for speed your able to tweak your car a lot, but it will remain stock besides the lsd's you can change and different types of tires, but even like this it is still the most realistic game i've tried if you want drifting, or even for racing and such, there is a free demo at liveforspeed.com if you want to try it, only thing is it is pretty hard at first, just stick in there and you'll get it down.

GT4 + Drifting = Bad.
Why does every car have an exponential amount of snap back at the end of a drift? 9 out of 10 drifts end up with the ass end snapping back the opposite direction due to sudden traction and you spinning across the track.
What the hell is that about?
GT3 was the drifting game, IMHO.

actually redneck forza has a lot of physics similiar to gt3, but a little better, plus the online, so if its the classic gt3 style your looking for, there ya go.

Yeah, but I refuse to by Xbox just to play that game.
I bought PS2 just to play the original Grand Theft Auto... now look at me...two PS2's later... all these games.... so much money wasted... Fun times though.

Live for speed is the best car game ever. I have played that game for many years, I have also made a drifting team in that game called <SSR> +) It was very fun. Suspension tweaks help you understand what happens when you do certain things. =) helps you understand gear ratios and such, its just a very fun and informative game. GT4 and Forza are just games to have fun, and thats it, but Live for speed is actually very informative. O but becareful there are different types of patches for instance live for speed patch G you can drift very well with a keyboard, but for patches H and such you would need to go and buy a wheel and some pedals too if you want, to be able to control you car while drifting or racing =). In the demo you can only pick three cars, and the rest you can get when you buy the game. Its worth the money.

Stop hating their $150. And most of the best games come out on game systems, not to mention if you want to play with a friend thats hard with computers.

its good, if you come back it'll be nothing like you remmber, physics have changed, we've got damage now, oh and the best part is no more downloading peoples skins, you just load yours onto a database and it automatically downloads in game when people see you, pretty sweet. they also have many plans for s3 from what i hear, one of the main ones being it'll be modable meaning you'll be able to put your own modeled cars in the game, your tracks, certain game mods etc etc. basically whatever you can program/model.

sounds sweet. I would go back to playing it, but I have work, and its too hectic right now. LFS takes time to play haha. =D

This hapens to me in real life. I need different tires, drift makes them sticky, then they grab and shoot me side-ways.
D1 has a game in Japan, (saw it in a mag a while ago) but Initial-D has a good PS2 game called Initial-D special stage. (haven't played, but i have seen clips)

GT4 is an absolute bitch to drift in. For some reason the controls feel sloppy for drift use unless you set the suspension to extreme levels which almost FORCE the car to work with you and even then, you have extreme snap back and no smoothness.
If anything, get forza and take some stock rwd cars on the downhill passes. I play the game quite a bit every so often and am always trying to get the fastest time drifting the downhills the japanese way without spinning out. Most fun is watching the racing line turn completely red while you're drifting on it.
Guys around the local 240sx shop like to play nfsu2 drift courses on breaks with all their own in-game crazy drift cars and its probably the most entertaining out there for just passing time.
Genki is putting out a touge game in japan called Kaido Battle but you'd need to mod your ps2 to accept japanese games and then find the japanese copy to import.

LOL you could surf the web with the PS2
and you could play people over a network with the snes and genesis (at least).
game systems are for just that, playing games. it is a machine dedicated to gaming, you dont buy an xbox to chat on aim do you?
live for speed has crazy physics, also i feel that forza is a better game overall compared to gt4.

it doesn't look like tokyo extreme racer at all, more like kaido racer which has had a series for a long time, the main difference is tokyo extreme racer was on the highways, kaido was in the mountain roads.
