I was looking at this website; http://www.nav-international.com.br/Motores_Menu.asp?Tipo=1&Idioma=2

It lists International engines available in Brazil. They list the power in "cv". The torque is in Kgf-m which is kilogram force meter, but what the heck is "cv"???

Its a french measurment thats essentually there version of HP, stands for chevaux vapeur. If you look around you should be able to find a conversion chart somewhere online.

yep, he's right. vapeur means power and chevaux means horse, so it is literally horsepower (we say brake horsepower in the UK).

every heard of the citroen 2CV ? the name was because of the engine, it was a 2bhp engine, hence the "2" for 2 (duh..) an the "CV" for chevaux vapeur. so, it was literally translated as "2 horsepower".

so those figure in CV are the same as bhp.
