i wouldnt advise option 2 about the 400 shot of nitrous ....although it would be one serious kick in the pants.

Just thowin the nitrous thing out there
I'm about a month away from rebuilding my 350. I'm pretty sure I'm going with an Eagle Street and Strip Rotating Assemblies. It's a balanced stroker kit that comes with the Hypereutectic pistons, steel crank, I-beam rods, rod and main bearings. Costs $945. They don't make a kit like this for a 327 but individually, the parts shouldn't be too much more. I'm keeping the stock heads and just grinding on them a little bit. Also, I'm calling Lunati and getting a cam recommendation.

Alright since these idiots are just throwing stuff in the wind. I say repair the stuff that you need, and go for a 427 (Favorite one here) or a 350, whatver is better for your money.
korndogg
10-04-2005, 04:17 PM
the only thing is that it is the original engine. And I kind of want to keep it. But im not sure.
Rally Sport
10-04-2005, 04:20 PM
Well I didnt say sell it did I? If you ever feel like you have to sell the Camaro (God forbid :disappoin) you can just throw the 327 back in there and there you go.
FormulaLT1
10-04-2005, 04:27 PM
I say, keep the engine with some ported heads and a more radical cam maybe some performance goodies like a ignition box if you don't already have that and for the love of god be happy with what you got.
korndogg
10-04-2005, 04:29 PM
oh Im happy as hell. Im just throwing ideas out there to see what I want to do.

UPDATE: I may be getting my hands on a running 454 soon. Ill let you guys know what happens. If I get that, Im going to set my 327 aside and build up my 700r4 so it can handle the new power.

SWEET 454! You might be able to run with Jim.. NOW that would be a drivers race!

korndogg
10-04-2005, 10:17 PM
asking $1000. Since I know the guy selling it. I would be able to keep it in the shop he works at and use his tools and he'll help me out with it. It has a distributor and carb.
It needs pulleys, alt, power steering, oil pump and small stuff like gaskets, clean it, paint it, timing chain, and ill probably put a bigger cam in it.

Oh...I see how it is....
i don't remember you expressing interest in a road trip to meet up w/ us... i know your car should be up with us easy... but i didn't know if you wanted to meet...
i say forge the internals on the 454... and spray the living shit out of it http://www.tamparacing.com/photopost/data/500/avatar24434_1.gif

Damn, i wanna go on the road trip too. Somebody give me a ride. Isn't the 327 a high revver than the 350?

right now Im debating if im gonna stick with my engine or pick up the 454...

10-05-2005, 02:40 PM
I live in Boston = not happening, would have to wait until my car is done. I would definitely love to have a whole camaro AF meet, where all of us meet up and shot the shit. Btw Korndogg, my bad for the hijacking, but i asked if the 327 was a higher revving motor than the 350. Read over at thirdgen.org, they were having a debate about it between the two. I say keep the 327 and build the hell out of it. Make it a highway demon.
korndogg
10-05-2005, 02:43 PM
well as of right now im leaning towards the 454 just because I love big blocks. The sound of a big block alone is worth it to me lol.
Link85x
10-05-2005, 02:47 PM
You ain't lying there. When i heard a big block with open headers for the 1st time, i almost went deaf. I couldn't even hear myself speak. My whole body was vibrating, and i was standing about 5ft. away. Hey, now that you mention it, get the big boy and keep the the little and save it, just in case (God forbid) you wanna sell it down the line to keep it all original. I love your car dude. 1st gen are the bomb!!
korndogg
10-05-2005, 02:48 PM
oh no doubt im gonna keep the 327 on the side. I was never planning on getting rid of it.
Link85x
10-05-2005, 02:51 PM
Nice. Well if can do it man, do it. Then when your done, make some videos of you diminishing your tires!
drvngstorm05
10-05-2005, 07:41 PM
if you want to forge the internals on the 454... you can buy an old 454 with a billion miles, that came out of an old truck for like 200-300 dollars on ebay (seen it before)... then take that, tear it down, bore it out (if you want, or just hone the cylinders) throw in some forged internals, nice alluminum heads, alluminum intake, and a hot cam (actually crane cams "mild" cam really has significant life on it). my dad went fuel injection on his ss 396 el camino, and he loves it, so you could do the same... or get a nice huge carb... depending on how much change you got left over... i still say you could spray a lil into it http://www.tamparacing.com/photopost/data/500/avatar24434_1.gif
then, after all that's done, you, me, curtis, geno, and john can go race

drvngstorm05
10-05-2005, 08:00 PM
ya well you said that it was gonna cost you 1000... f that you can get one that you can build up the way you want for 2 to 3 hundred
korndogg
10-05-2005, 08:03 PM
are they in perfect running condition tho?
drvngstorm05
10-05-2005, 08:14 PM
no, that's what i said, if you're looking to build up a 454, then buy a junk one, hone the cylinders, forged internals, and such... you will have to fork out some dough if you want a 454 that you can just throw in your car w/out any work...
korndogg
10-05-2005, 08:17 PM
the one i am looking at is in perfect running condition internally. just needs small things like pulleys and an alternator....but like I said. Im gonna end up prolly getting heads and of course a cam.
Rally Sport
10-05-2005, 08:20 PM
Mm.. we need a video afterwards, that would be nice. Nothing better than the sound of a big block, I tell ya.
drvngstorm05
10-05-2005, 08:24 PM
for about the same amount you can get a cheap block, and have forged internalls, nice alluminum heads and intake... is that 454 just a truck 454? because those things didn't make shit-worth hp... the heads and intake were made more for torque... and they fell on their face on the high-end... like i said you can make the exact engine that you want for about the same price... maybe a lil more... or you can buy one thats running that is either stock, or some1 else built...
which engine will make more power? and be a better platform for whatever your future plans may hold? that's my point...

yeah...well shit. Maybe I should just get heads and a cam for my 327 and say screw it.
FormulaLT1
10-05-2005, 08:50 PM
Unfortunely, with a car like yours. Any modifactions you make to the car will effect value and its more of a classic car than anything. If it was my 68 Camaro and I wanted it to have some bigger testes, I would buy a seperate engine, no matter what you decide to go with and build that up and keep your original engine, just that way. Original. Once you start messing around with cams and heads and adding a whole bunch of aftermarket stuff to your original 327, it no longer is the same to a possible buyer(not that your looking to sell it but just something to think about down the road)..
korndogg
10-05-2005, 08:52 PM
i will never sell it. end of discussion :)
