Fuel Pump Problem?

Hello. Have a '94 Cherokee Sport...Inline 6 /4.0 litre HO engine.(130,000 miles).Yesterday (when I was climbing) a hill on the way home..it "stuttered" (like it was not getting gas) to the engine..Is my fuel pump trying to go out?.(my check engine light came on as well)..When I stopped and recranked it check engine light went away...Otherwise it runs fine..This does not happen but every now and then....Thanks,Pete44
