99 starter run on

I have a 99 F150 with a unique problem. The starter stays engaged for a few seconds after the engine starts. It has a 4.2 V6 engine. I replaced the starter suspecting that the mechanical part that throws the gear out to engage the flywheel was hanging up (it was the original starter and I've got 180,000 miles on it so it was a good idea to change it anyway). It is still happening. I checked the voltage at the solenoid and it drops off as soon as the key is released. Is there any special shimming or adjustments necessary when mounting the starter?? Could the new unit have a problem too? :screwy: THANKS for any help!

I guess nobody had any input to help me out. I pulled the starter and used jumper cables to test it and it was hanging up when the power was removed. Took it back and the replacement works fine. :icon16:
