Overheating? Help!! I Need Input!!

Hello!! I was so excited I bought my wife a 2000 VW 1.8T automatic and she is in Love!! I could not believe it when she wanted one [you would have to know my wife]!! I bought the car it has 100000 miles on it and is in great condition. It had a check engine light on and I found the vacum lines were cracked, Easy Fix.

Today she pulled up in the garage and said this red light is flashing? Well I am a Sgt at the Local Sheriffs Dept. and I am aware that this is not a good sign? I walked out side and it is warm, I noticed this funny sound almost like a lifter noise that was not present before this?

I have looked at many post already and I must admit Bosch and Veedubmechanic are extremely knowledegeable and I am sure allot more are too, thats why I need help? If it were a crown vic I could help you!!


what needs to be replaced? Is the ticking sound that goes away around 1000rpms the waterpump? tensioner? I am planning on replacing the water pump, timing belt, and cam seals, I just want to make sure that the clicking sound will be fixed if I only replace the water pump? Also how do you fix a hard closing trunk-lid? I appreciate all of you and look forward to helping everyone else!!!!
