Cd Changer Won't Read Cd's

Background info:

- Never had a problem with my cd changer until I hooked up a 1000 Watt system. I used the cd changer's power wire for the remote wire of the amp (just a 12 volt source to tell the amp to turn on).

- Radio/Cassette player works perfectly fine.

Problem:

- It won't read CD's all the time, it wil just show the Disc # and say 00 for the track number. If I keep changing the Disc it will eventually read one of them and play the songs. Sometimes it will just stop reading the cd when I change the song and say 00 again.

- When it is trying to load a cd and fails I can hear it making a clicking sound. If it does actually load the cd, I don't hear the sound.

Failed Solutions:

- Tried disconnecting the 1000 Watt system, no effect whatsoever.
- Took the changer apart and thoroughly cleaned the lens with a sterile wipe and cotton swap, no effect whatsoever.

Thoughts:

- No idea. This is where you guys come in, anyone have this problem before?

- I don't really want to have to put a cd player in because i'm going to sell the car very soon. I'm taking the system completely out and selling it, just want the stock setup back.

Questions:

- Would I be able to buy the 12-disc CD changer from the later years and plug it right up to my existing connectors?

ya, i've had that problem with the Stock 6-disc cd changer. it usually displays the 00 when it skips bad if i go over a bump. but surprisingly, the "bad" skips happen over the tiniest bumps, and the really bad bumps may cause a skip only every other time.

basically, i think its just the disc changer being soooo old.

but my rear sway bar link bushings were going out (13 yrs old!), and i had been feeling more and more of the bumps through the suspension. so after i replaced the bushings, it made the ride a little more smooth, although also a little more stiff as well. so the cd changer skips less.

so ya might check your bushings? i know you're about to sell the car, but i've seen the 00 many many times, and i've even fabricated a metal bracket to hold the disc changer securely to the seat so it won't skip as much. i've just concluded its really really old and old technology just can't keep up with the new.

hmm...well it does this when i'm sitting still so I don't think it's my bushings lol. Plus it has never skipped once it's playing. But it might be that it's just old.
