help with my 2001 vw cabrio convertble top not working

can anyone please offer me any information regarding troubleshooting a non- working convertible top on a 2001 vw cabrio. It was working just fine earlier today and then all of a sudden it stopped. The power switch has no response at all. I have checked the fluid level and it appears to be fine. Any other things i can check before i have to spend a fortune at a repair shop???? Please help!!! Thank You!!

Sometimes the impeller inside the pump for the power top hydraulics shatters. A new pump is an expensive item (I think around $600 for the part alone), but if you poke around the net you will find DIYs to repair the impeller.
