Hey guys, not sure what I want to do next for engine mods. I have dc sports 4-2-1 headers, comptech exhaust, random tech. high flow cat, aem cold air intake, ngk iridium plugs... What should I do next? I probably want the apexi vtec controller, pulleys maybe. What are the best mods for most horsepower? Thanks.

get rid of my stock intake manifold?? I was j ust talking to a friend of mine with a civic si, he just bought that password carbon fiber intake thing they just came out with. he said the gains were unreal for just an intake. he had the aem cai before, and replaced it. said vtec sounds amazing. so im gonna get that, probably get type r cams and skunk2 cam gears too. are the type r cams stronger than the skunk2 stage 1 cams? and are the skunk2 cam gears better than the aem ones?

on a stock gsr :screwy:

you'll gain like 5 hp top and lose 10 mid trust me it sucked my stocker went back on till i got my CTRs.

CTRs then mani other way around really fucks your powerband up.

Their was a debate over skunk2 vs CTR i'm sure a search will find it but Remember this Honda has never called whole groups ricers bench racers and nobodies *refering to Honda tech* there are a few other reasons I stray from skunk2 but thats all been covered.

the ctr cams (or '98+ spec ITR cams) are hotter than the skunk2 stage 1 cams and probably more reliable b/c they're Honda (don't quote me on the reliablity thing- just a speculation). i haven't heard great things about skunk2 cams, but i have known a few people to like their adjustable cam gears. hope that helps.

so, if i get the itr cams, skunk2 or aem cam gears, what else do i have to do to get the best power out of it? also, what SHOULD i upgrade, like, piston rings? I've seen those suggestions before.

Screw the cam gears. They are only worth it if you're going all out and actually need them for dyno tuning (or with a lot of head work). Otherwise it's all show and could possibly mess up your timing (seen that more than a few times). You'll also need valve springs and retainers, even just OE ITR ones will work. BTW, the exhaust cams for the CTR and the ITR are the same, it's the intake cam that's different (CTR cam is more aggressive).

Isn't there a difference between JDM ITR cams and the us spec? Several places over the internet offer ITR and JDM ITR. With the JDM ITRs being about 50 bucks more than the CTR cams.

I'm not positive on this, but I think they are the same up until '00. That's when the USDM ITR got a more aggressive cam. But I don't know if it's more aggressive than the CTR cam or not. But then again, I could be wrong completely.

A common misconseption about needing the vavle springs and retainers I'll agree you should get them but, if you dont pass the factory redline you will not need them. The cams will keep pulling so upgrading is a great idea but needed no.

thanks for all the help guys. I also had a friend post on club si about this... and the people there said 2 options... itr cams and new intake manifold, could probably get about 8-10 hp. but if i wanted to spend the money (probably about 13-1500) id want skunk2 stage 2 cams, skunk2 cam gears, a new ecu or something like it to allow better redline (probably hondata), and valve springs and retainers. all this gave a guy with a b18c1 engine over 25 whp. he said to expect 25-30 if tuned right.
