Guy's, I just got in a 94 w/2.5 OHV mtr. With a compression test, the cylinder closest to pass side is dead "0". I've done alot of work on the 60 degree V-6's but no 4 cylinders. I'm guessing the head is cracked but I guess it's possible to have a burnt valve. My first quest is will a 2.3 and 2.5 head interchange? They look the same externally at the salvage yard. This car has 101,000 miles...does this head tend to crack often? or burn valves? I'll be taking the head off this week so I'll no a little more. Thanks for any info.

Ok, if the car is a 94 then its a 2.3. Make sure the head you get has the right casting number, should be 24573302 for the sohc motor and it should be 24575456 for the dohc motor. Different heads will not work with your '94 motor, so make sure its a 94. The block casting number should be 24570661 or a 24572927. These heads do tend to crack, often in the combustion chamber area. Hope this helps.

Skibum, I've just noticed the car has been wrecked and hit pretty hard in the front. It has been fixed somewhat but I think the parts against the strut support is off another car. It has a different fender and hood and has a sticker on it ID'ing the motor as a 2.5. My car is a single overhead cam. With your info...This kinda tells me while I was in the wrecking yard "WHY" I couldn't find any other car with a "2.5 Single Overhead cam"...I just assumed there were two different size SOHC! There were both Single and Dual. Thanks for the info, now I know I can just get the 2.3 head if I need it.

Make sure you check the casting number on the block so you know what year the motor is. 24570661 or a 24572927 are the casting numbers for 92-94 quad motors regardless of which head they have on them. Good luck.

here is a page I found that helps alot with determining what motor your car has, and what should be in there, unless someone messed with it. Hope it helps on your journey, and good luck finding a SOHC head, they go bad alot.
