Hey, i know this question has been asked before, i think i may even have asked myself....anyways...to my question:
I have a d15...yeah...iknow......anyways, i was thinking of doing a b16 swap, but that cash just ins't in my budget. I have i/h/e on my d15, and i was thinking of swapping a d16 head onto my block. i have the dx, so i don't need the intake or exhaust manifold for the d16. I was wondering if someone could please give me a complete part list and if you could please give me some type of detail instructions, or a website with instructions that would be great. Thanks so much..and and please...dont' flame my lil' d15...she's cute. hehe

Mechanical parts are easy, complete head assembly minus parts you already have this includes intake manifold, distributor, and all that good stuff and the ECU for this particular head. As for instructions not many ppl do this one so I can only point you to the LS/Vtec instructions found in the FAQ. Youc an find the misc. parts you'll need for the Vtec engagement as well there.
But my personal opinion, don't bother. You could get a complete Z6 or Y8 swap for the same price and effort.

yes, but from personal experience with a guy I know who has one and races it, it's faster than a full D16Y/Z swap due to higher compression, and you actually do save a few bucks.

if you do decide to do it get the Y8 head, its a better design then the previous z6 head.

would the Y6 fit onto my block without any modifications?
Could you ask your friend who has this done if he has any instructions and waht is needed. Do i need to run an oil line from the block like the ls/vtec setup????

Well i think i'd go with the Z6 then, i gotta keep this as low budget as possible, as it's just to tide me over until i can afford a gsr swap, probably in a year or so. Then i'll part out the engine and sell it.
So an oil line is needed from the block, so i'll check out the ls/tec pages and learn how to do that.
Do you think this is oging to be hard, i'm going to have the help of a guy who's done a few swaps in his day.

Slap a VTEC head on the CX and see what happens... its already got 91ft pounds @ 2000 RPM! You may only end up with B20 like HP, but you will also have B16 like torque outta the little D15... For once, I agree with Drift.
If im not mistaken, wont he have to tap a VTEC oil line?

i think that was kinda implied by the statements, "faster", and "higher compression".

there's two ways. one, you can get a Tee fitting and tap into your oil pressure sensor on the back of the block, or you can tap into the oil pressure tester service hole in the front of the head.
the former uses a BSPT thread design, and the latter uses metric. you can also just buy a simple kit from www.jdmhondaparts.com.

oil line in a mini me? am i reading this right??
I just looked at a 16 valve DX head and than at d16z6 head, and they look identical. Same holes, so what gives? I thought that mini me, was a bolt on affair.
i assume that y8 head is from 96+ EX, but what is y6 head that soul180 mentioned, or is that a typo?

You need to have an oil run up for the Vtec engagement. It uses a seperate oil line to push the cam over. And it is a bolt-on affair, meaning you don't have to do mad amounts of custom work just to get it to fit.
And yeah the Y8 head is the 6th gen Ex.

ok, where would i hook up the line? to the block? to the head? there isnt a place that i've seen to add a line. Also why would you need to, since the holes in both of the heads are in the same places. No extra ones that would serve that purpose.
Sorry for all the questions, but this is the first time that i've heard of extra oil line on SOHC, so i'm a little sceptical

alright, so what the guy from www.homemadeturbo.com said is that when he did it, all he had to do is remove the oil orifice from the DX block, which restricts oil from getting into the head of non-vtec engines. Once that is removed the vtec solenoid will ensure that the head is supplied with oil....Also he said you need a Ex timing belt, and it is better to use the head gasket from the Ex as it is made from triple layer metal. let me know if you guys think this is correct.
