exhaust setup

What would you think would be the best exhaust setup for a 92 stealth r/t non-turbo....i have a glass pack replacing my cat and straight pipe run to a racing muffler...anyone have any ideas about what a better setup would be to get maximum horsepower. i was thinking of taking the glass pack off and putting a bolt on straight pipe and running a 6 inch tip muffler to replace my 4.5 inch tip. i would get headers but the only place i can find them is 3sx and i cant afford 700 bucks for a set of headers.

dont u dare do some ghey 6" tip. fart cannons make me wanna barf. my borla sounds beautiful. it used resonators for tips. it's not annoyingly loud and it's deffinitely not the "pissed off bumble-bee" sound that comes out of every civic runnin teenager out there.

mine sounds nothing like a civic either....even with the import muffler on it it sounds nothing like a bumble bee. thats why i'm not scared to put a 6 in. on it. mine is pretty loud just cause i dont have a cat. on it. the glass pack gives it a nice sound to it and the muffler really doesnt do too much to the sound. it does give it a little echo but other than that the car has a nice growl to it. it sounds mean as hell, nothing like any honda i have ever heard.

If you replace the glass pack with a straight pipe it will sound like shit. A resonator isnt adding very much if any restriction.
And making it a 6" tip is not only ricey, gay, and stupid but it wont net anything in the power department. Leave teh 6" tips for deisels where they belong.

Yeah man don't go with the whole F&F crowd 6" tips...its just gay now...it was maybe cool in '93...just makes it look like you know nothing about your car.

Save up for the long headers... Anything over 3" will detract from the amount of power coming from your car (you will find a lot of arguments on whether you should go 2.5" or 3" on NA).
Power is derived by allowing the combusion change to clear more effectively which means increasing the exhaust velocity (which can create a vacuum behind it) and not decreasing the pressure differencial. (look at race cars/dragsters as see how long teams take to tune the intake/exhaust headers instead of just leaving the ports open)
Also, stop with the changing of the pipe diameters... You will increase the air resistance whenever the air change piping diameters due to shock losses... Pick a diameter from the Y pipe (or F in our case) and carry that all the way to the tip.

I think i'm just gonna buy the downpipe and headers as soon as i can afford them and change my muffler to a apexi n1 turbo 4.5". is the same size as i got on there now but it looks better. the only problem i may have is that my exhaust is a 2.5" and the inlet on the turbo muffler is a 3". i think i'm just gonna leave the glass pack on there just to keep a little back pressure.

I assume when you say you have 2.5" exhaust you mean some custom bent ones... If not here is my suggestion:
Save up for the 3sx long headers first... Find a good muffler place and have them custom bend you the rest of the exhaust (try and find one that uses mandel bending...) and make sure that the bends are smooth (none of that crickled crap that came OEM).
You will need a both a resonator/glasspack and muffler/silencer (especially since you took out the cat) otherwise the exhaust will buzz (it's a feature of a 6-cylinder engine so live with it). If you are going with the existing glasspack and muffler with 3" inlet/outlet I would have the shop create some sort of 2.5"-3" expander, but make sure it expands SLOWLY. If it does not look smooth then find another shop.
Honestly, nowadays the size of the glasspack and muffler are not going to matter because most are now "straight through" designs so as long as the interior diameter matches the inlet and exhaust you are not going to get significant backpressure.
Why I would suggest as much as you like the look... performance-wise it's best to keep all the piping diameters the same... Just remember, form should follow function... The other way around is alternative the definition of a poser.

well right now my exhaust is stock except for the glass pack replacing the cat. i cut the two resonators off between the cat and the muffler and replaced the muffler with a 2.5" inlet 4.5" oulet muffler...its a straight through muffler and the inside of the muffler is probably just a little bit over 2.5". i at least want a 4.5 tip muffler because anything smaller would look awkward. i am trying to get as much perfromance as i can with a little bit of looks also.
