I just recently picked up a 92 Chevy K-1500 5.7 after doing some maintenance work to it I developed a high idle. So I researched the forums and changed out the EGR Valve,EGR Silenoid,Map Senser,Coolant Temperture Senser,TBI Gasket and the Throttle Pos Senser (TPS). I got rid of the high idle problem but now it shifts hard going into Second. After reading the Haynes manuel it said that I had to change the TPS and the TBI at the same timeand I really hope this isn't the case. I checked the voltage on the TPS and I got it set around .65 volts but I am only able to get around 3.7 volts at WOT. I know that the TPS is non-adjustable but I can vary the voltage some on it's mount between .55 to .7 ish. So I my questions are:

1.Is my New TPS Senser bad or do I need to tweak it some?

2.How do I find out which Tranny I have to determine if the TPS is what is causing the hard shift?

3.What is a scan tool to check the TPS properly?

Thanx.......

I am pretty sure that in 92, you would have a 700R4 (4L60) and not a 4L60-E; therefore, the TV Cable is used to control shifting not the TPS sensor.

Use this link to verify the correct adjustment of the TV Cable http://www.tciauto.com/instructions/gm_tv_cable_adjust.htm

Well after messing around with the TV cable I was able to correct the hard shift....

I crawled up under the truck to take a look around and noticed a hose hanging from around my transmission. I traced the hose up and it connects to the top of my tranny. Does anyone have any idea what this is or where it would go? I diddn't see anything obvious to connect it to.

I believe that is a vent hose so it wont connect to anything. As I recall, it was held down with a clamp on top.

That's right it is a vent. It should have a clamp somewhere on the trans to clamp it to, If not, don't worry about it, just wire tie it up to something high.
