01 TDI, Problem with Reverse

I bought a 2001 TDI yesterday, really hard to find right now.
It runs great, but there is a weird issue with reverse.
When I put the car in rever and leave it idle (around 1100 RPMs) it jsut sits there, even on level ground, once I get it up to about 1500 RPMs, it finally will move backwards, but it "catches" and moves pretty quick, kinda dangerous.
If I push the gas VERY slowly, sometimes it will catch and move back slowly, but it's pretty unnatural.
I had a 2002 Cabrio that did this too, but not quite as bad. VW said there was nothing wrong with it. I am curious if anyone has seen this before.
It goes forward just fine, doesn't shift hard, there seems to be a delay when going from R > N > D, but it's not really dramatic or weird, jsut slower than my Toyota

I would suggest a trans fluid flush, the jerk is something sticking, or leaking untill enough fluid pressure is available. If it is under warranty get it fixed free till you are satisfied.

already had the transmission flushed and serviced...has 300 kms on it now..if i realy kick it down into passing gear say past 3500 rpm..it will miss like i blew a shift then the check engine light will come on for about1 hour...then it seems to get the right code after the missed shift..(automatic)...and it runs fine..
