Hey all;
I bought some Alpine 6x9s today for the rear, and I was having some problems intalling them. Granted, I only had 5 minutes to try to install them because it started raining, but it doesnt seem to fit too good. Can someone post pics of their aftermarket speakers in the back and how they fit? Do I have to do any mods to the panel? Thanks.

My type R's are 6.5 also and fit perfectly... I have yet to find a DSM that the 6x9s fit in. Ya shoulda talked to me first david-b, I've got a brand new set of alpine type R 6x9s that I've been trying to sell for a few months now. I'm ready to just give em away. lol

I used my discount at work for them. They're like $160... I got em for $60. Can't complain about that. Do I need to mod the actual panel then? I thought the stock speakers were 6x9 anyways? I guess I have to put some work into them then.

Actually, once you tear it apart and pull the stock speakers out you will see one of two black plastic adapters... The first and most common is a 6.5" round speaker adapter... The second which is very uncommon is the 6x9 speaker adapter... Sometimes you can get the ones you need from junkyards and the ones from the 1g's might fit 2g's also.

onece you get them in, trying to decide how to describe them, but on the actual side panel that you pull to get to the speaker there is a thin ridge of plastic that would normally encompass the stock speakers, make sure you cut off grind down whatever this ridge had a prob of it sticking into the foam of the 6x9's. (too small of a circle to fit around them.)

Why are you guys having to install 6.5" in the rear? I thought for sure those were 6x9". Atleast thats what I've read everywhere, never actually looked at them. I would think you should be able to just install any 6x9" as long as the depth isn't too much.

My factory rears were 6.5" speakers... Go figure, I can't figure out which models came with which speakers...

How much do you want for those 6x9s? I'm looking to get some to put in the back.

Like david-b said, they're worth $160, but I'm just sick of them sitting in my room in the way and I just want rid of them now. Hows $80 sound?

I got 6x9's in the back. They came with the car, but it's just a simple adaptor they used and what looks like a bit of grinding with a dremel. Best Buy or circuit city probably sells the adaptor. If not, online retailers will.

Do you have the specs for those or a link to a site that has them?

I installed the speakers today. Im still working on grinding and sanding out the actual panels though. So, right now, the car looks like it went through some weight reduction; no back seat, no panels, no nothing. I did finish sanding out the inside of the mounts that the speakers hook on to. Ill post pics when I get some. Actually, that sanding was more like cracking the plastic. Got lazy and beat the hell out of it to open the hole up more.

I know when I went to buy 6x9s for the rear speakers for my 1G, the dealer asked what car they were going in they said that I couldn't use 6x9s cause only 6.5 would fit in the back. It took me actually tearing everything apart to believe them. One would think that they have to be 6x9s cause the grill/speaker cover is in the shape of a 6x9 idk but hey thats by :2cents: as well.
