1993 TURBO Escort

I want to let all know that its not 4g's to turbo a car. I took a thousand dollar 93 escort 5spd, and turbo'd it, intercooled it, and smoke the tires with ruthless power. I went to the junkyard, pulled an IHI VJ11 turbo from a mazda, chopped my exhaust at the catalytic, welded a flange to the little nub of pipe, bolted the turbo to it, bolted it back onto the manifold and ran the intake....(ordered a pipe with a eclipse gsx blowoff on it off ebay) and the car ran like a champ. I have a vortech FMU pushing 12 lbs of fuel for every 1 psi, (per hour) an inter cooler out of a saab. so any ways, .... 9 psi , ruthless power, scary at times... torque steering under boost and i raced a mustang and completely embarassed him........... all for my beater, and about 250 dollars.... TURBO 75.00 , fmu 75.00 boost gauge 15.00, intake tube with blow off 30.00, oil cooler kit for a t3, (turbo i used is not a t3)65.00)....and various oil cooler parts to hook up to my oil sending unit, and an air filter came out to around 250.00.

Hehe, you sound like a Turbo Dodge guy.

Anyhow, I wouldn't say it couldn't be done, but I would say that it can't be done very reliably.

I am a firm believer in-- "You get what you pay for".

I dont have any digital pics but will shoot some tonite. I also believe in getting what you pay for and it seems to be working well but I feel a t3 would be a little more on the top end. Im working on a less ghetto intake tube to better maximize my boost, right now its got some rubber that balloons and causes lag. BEYOND LOADED< your sounds amazing,...a cobra killer!

in my oppinion "you get what you pay for" only goes so far. you can design a turbo setup and put it together for cheaper than buying a kit from a company and get better results, plus it would be taylor made to your preferences. on hte other hand it does work when you're talking about quality, you buy cheaper parts and materials, they generally wont be as expensive as more expensive parts or materials. great car im glad you went for the DIY rather than the "I bought a kit and had it installed by a professional" root. it shows you know your stuff. im looking forward to some pictures and also i'd like to see how long it lasts, if it lasts a long time, we'll know you did a good job.
