clear coat is peeling??

Its mostly on my hood but its really bad, and its also on both front/rear bumpers, it seems every few days it peels off a little bit more like this clear plastic looking film comming off.

Is their any thing I can do about this besides get a new paint job, the right side of my car is so smashed on the doors I wouldnt ever consider a new paint job but my whole hood is peeling like this if it all just peeled off it would be a lot better. Is their a way I can get the clear coat atleast off the hood?

I have this exact same problem. I have a 93 cavalier, and on the hood there is sections where the clear coat is peeling off. I don't really think there is a way to fix it without re-painting it. I probably will take my hood off, sand it all down, re-paint it and then put new clearcoat on.

you have a metallic paint by the loks of things, so it needs clearcoat in order to shine, however you can sand the clear coat off. using like 1000/1500 grit paper. use wet and dry paper and use it wet, not only will this make the paper last longer and make the sanding easier by acting as a crude lubricant your less likely to get big sanding marks. use a sanding block or you'll have finger marks in there. just sand it off. if you then switch to 2000 grit and go over the whole thing again followed by some rubbing compound and then something like scratch x you can make it smooth and put some shine back into it. the reson it's peeling as from poor adhesion between the clearcoat and paint. if it is factory it could mean that the car stopped on the line between paint and clear and the paint was on the car for too long to get a good hold or if it was sprayed after sale then it was prooly prepared. you could just hve the hood taken down and re cleared pretty much at any shop that paints it should be too much money either. if you sand, be careful to make sure you're only removing the clear and not the paint also.
