99 Z71 no 3rd gear???

When the fruck shifts into 3rd gear it feels like its in neutral.. I would think that it would start to slip and gradually get worse but it just all of a sudden started happening.. Do you think the trans needs an overhaul or could it be something else?

How many mile do you have on the truck and what all do you use it for. It could almost be anything from needing a fluid and filter change to like you said an overhaul. Sometime you can pust a full overhaul with just a shift kit. The truck will shift harder though. Give us some more info and we'll try to get you some better answers.

The truck has 118K miles on it. i bought it off of a friend. He bought it with 40K miles on it and but all the miles on in from work. So there all highway miles. The was used to tow only a couple times.

I just think that its weird that it would just lose third gear like that. It never sliped at all before that, thats why im hoping that it is something else.

I had the same problem last year around this time when the weather started getting cold. I took it to a trans guy and they changed the filter and I havent had a problem with it since.
