I am having starting and stalling problems with my 95 Silverado 2500. It has the 5.7 350 TBI. When i got the truck it was running fine. I was told when I got it that occassionally it has a stalling problem when a load is put on it. Well i ran it for a week bfore i saw any porblems. I was driving the truck and i slowed down to make a turn into a parking lot and it randomly cut out on me. I put it in park then tried to restart it several times. Nothing. I got outta the truck messed with a few things under the hood including the fuel pump relay. She started right back up didnt have a problem with it for the rest of the weekend. Well I ran the truck to VA from NJ cuz i was moving she ran great all the way down with a full load in the back. I pulled over for directions came out and it wouldnt start. Messed with the fuel pump relay again and it started. Noiw ive had this same problem several times done the same thing every time and it worked. Until last night. She started up but as soon as i put her into gear she cut off. Messed with the relay. Didnt work this time. she kept cranking but not starting. Left it till the morning and she started right up. However i slightly tapped the gas and she cut out. Wouldnt start again. I'm at a loss of what to do. Any help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated.

First suspect is the fuel supply I'm thinking. Try a new filter, but if over 100K miles a new pump might be needed. Pretty common in these trucks.

If the fuel filter doesnt fix it, look towards a fuel pump starting to go. If the pump starts pulling more amperage, the relay starts to act funny. I might try replacing the relay for the hell of it. It's cheap and then you can open it up and check for burnt contacts, which is indicative of a fuel pump going out or a bad ground connection. Good Luck -Chris

Ok well i will give the relay a try and look at inners of the old. But i think im leaning more towards the fuel pump and fuel filter being as she just went over 100K a few months ago. Now the main question i have for you guys is what is the best site for buying the fuel pump from and about how much will it cost me.

I figured this much just wanted to get some input from others. You guys have been a great help thanx. Leif

Replace the ignition module in the distributor.

Ya mine started that way from what i was told be the previous owner. I guess it got progressively worse. Till now where it wont start at all. :banghead:

Dont jump straight at the fuel pump, go with the easiest, and cheapest. I would Do the Filter, Relay, then if the problem continues, pump...

As far as that pump goes, get it from the dealer. Autozone specials leave you crying when they go out in a couple months... (I have one in my truck, it makes a lovely grinding noise, I can hear it over my flow masters at idle.)


Sounds to me more like a Relay then a pump... But opening the old relay up is great advice!

I agree start with relay since when you mess with it and then it was working fine (could be a bad/loose/burned up connection inside the relay), then get a Delphi (GM Dealers Brand) fuel pump from Auto Zone or O'reileys (cant remember which one-call both for availability). I paid about $50.00 for mine plus pump filter, also always replace fuel filter too when you do a pump. I lost my pump at 103,000miles. put in an aftermarket brand and it died 5 months later. Now I have a Delphi.
