Alternator rebuild kit

Hello to all!

Anybody ever rebuild/repair their alternator? The bearings in mine are going, and I am trying to decide whether to replace the bearings or just buy another one. The kits for these things cost about $25.00, and that seems atractive. So, any stories regarding these rebuild kits would be appreciated, including any pitfalls or tips.

For most people when you factor in the parts, repair time, and frustration, it is more economical to buy a reman. alternator. If you have some mechanical aptitude and time, go for it.
