fuel tank sensor

ive posted a thread before about how my 98 GTP keeps eating up gas, it got me wondering too if maybe the sensor in the fuel tank might be messed up or something, would that be possible? like if i actually do have more gas than it says i do, and its just tricking the computer and guage into thinking im low on gas? the guage works fine, it doesnt jump around or anything but it still got me wondering.

I want some of what your on !j/k :) I dont think the components in your car play tricks on each other either :D
May I suggest checking your fuel mileage the ole fashioned way.Fill tank,(write down mileage on odometer)drive around for 100 miles or 1/2 tank you be the judge, Fill car with fuel again be sure and see how much fuel it takes to fill this time , check mileage on odometer.Now divide the mileage traveled by how much fuel and theres your fuel consumption .Depending on fuel tank size you will know how far you can go on full tank therefore if there is any trickery you shall know

I would agree with GravityAmp, the Grand Prix's sensors are often tempermental and/or mental. They mis-relay signal's from various gauge components of the car and to each-other. My 'Trac'-sensor has been going on/off for yrs..yeah yrs. Ive had it replaced and it still flashes on and off. Great car..but u cant believe the sensor indicators.

yea i just noticed the other day that i geuss "range" on the DIC means how many miles you have before you run out of gas, so thats more helpful to know, that IS what it means right?

General Motors gas gauges are notorious for not always being true. 97 Regal GS..when i fill the tank, it stays on full for a while, then slowly moves to 3/4, then moves from 3/4 to 1/4 pretty fast, then from 1/4 to empty real slow... On the DIC range/DTE does tell you how many miles you can go before empty...Mine seems to be pretty accurate..Like GravityAmp said you should clock your milage manually. these cars get very poor milage, especially local driving
