I've got a 2004 Elantra GLS and the EPA mileage rating for the 4-speed automatic is, I believe, 24MPG. The car started around 19.5-20, and I was somewhat surprised. I figured I'd get at least 22.
I took off the factory air filter and put a cone filter on, and along with the addition of a Tornado and the subtraction of the muffler, I'm up to averaging between 21-24MPG. Finally up to the EPA city mileage estimate.
Any others here tune for mileage? That's the main reason I tuned the car any.

I just picked up a new 05 GLS with AT; my first tank was 29.4 mpg
[edit: After three tanks, it has slipped to about 27 mpg overall. This tank, though, seems to be doing much better: almost 200 miles and still have half a tank.]

I drove Nashville - Columbus a week and a half ago in my '04 GLS Auto. Had 414 miles on that tank when I filled up and only put in 11.3 gallons. Works out to be 36.6 or so.

97 Elantra 1.8 GLS Manual tranny with 100 000 miles. With 2 adults and 2 kids, doing steady 80 mph on the highway with the air conditioning on and the trunk full of luggage I get 24 mpg. If I drive alone, same speed, no AC, no luggage I get 27 mpg. I have new spark plugs and new spark plug wires. My injection system has recently been cleaned.

I have a '95 Elantra. I get about 30-35 miles to the gallon. This is a combined estimate of city and highway. It has a 12 gallon tank and I get about 420 miles to the tank.

I had a '95 Elantra 5 speed that averaged right at or just below 30 mpg. I know have an '03 Elantra 5 speed that gets between 30-32 mpg. Both cars are driven primarily on the highway with a little city driving.
