Hi,
I was just woundering if you could swap a tranny from a Civic DX or SI to a Civic STD( standar 4 speed tranny) with out having to do any modifications?

is it an 88 STD?
you will need tranny, axles, hub/knuckle assembly. you can just swap out the hub however, it's more difficult that way

Looking to do the same on a 91 STD HB. Read different info about wether or not the axes will have to be replaced too.
I do know you should change the ECU from the PM9 (STD) to the PM5 (DX). That is if you still have DPFI.
Which might be better a DX tranni or SI?
Anybody else who can shed some light on this?

ok the si tranny is the best for N/A acceleration out of the Si, STD/DX, HF. as far as i have found the DX and STD r the exact same just switched wut they r called it during the model run between 89 and 90. as for changing stuff can't tell u for sure but i will tell u exactly wut i did do and u can draw u'r own conclusion. i have an 88 dx. i got 92 integra all wheels discs. swapped the front knuckles completely. left in my factory 88 dx axles. everything drove perfect. then when i did my SOHC VTEC swap, i also swapped in an 89 Si tranny. again leaving in my factory 88 axles. still no problems and everything works flawlessly. so from my experience, u can swap the tranny and be fine.

I have an 89 std with an SI trans. All I swapped was the trans and put in a 1.6 block one time and now has a D16a, which is the jdm equivalent of a d16z6. The axles and hubs are all std. The SI trans is geared for acceleration but the engine is up around 2800 rpm at 70mph.
The DX trans will keep the revs down but is not as good for accelleration.

Thanx for the reply's
Just to add more to this thread, My friend bought a 91 SI with a ZC engine already installed. He was learing how to drive stick, so he broke the tranny in 4 months. We got what we where told was a 5 speed tranny but in reallity was a 4 speed(all was done in a junk yard for 300 installed) The car drove fine, but he later bought another tranny for 150 and did it himself.
As some of you remember, I started a thread of what kind of car to buy(tunned or stock) My brother sold me his STD 90 Civic for 200 bucks, that's why I started this thread. I found a shop that will instal a SOHC Vtec for around 1500. That's why I wan't to intal the tranny first, from a friend that'll do it really cheap:)

Had my worn out 4-speed tranny swapped with 5-speed DX tranny in my 91 Civic STD HB (D15B1).
I DID NOT need new axels. The old ones work perfectly.
Also changed my ECU from PM9(STD) to PM5(DX). Don't know if this will make much difference. Car did run fine with the PM9 and new 5-speed tranny.
Now I can start saving for the MPFI swap as long as nothing else breaks.

The extra gear is nice, but with the D15B1 in the STD you can really notice the lack of horsepower when trying to accellerate in 4th or 5th gear.
Hopefully a MPFI swap will improve this.
Are you using the original STD ECU (PM9) or a DX ECU (PM5)?
