ZC question

I thoguht that i had everything straight than i just read a article about ZC's and i confused. Let me give you the gist of the confusion. My friend has a 88 CRX Si and it's pukin oil like crazy so he wants to put a new motor in it and i told him to put a ZC in. I thought that a ZC motor is the same motor thats in the 86-89 integras that we have in the US. Am i right that they're the same thing and have the same power and both bolt right into the 88-91 civic/crx ? Anyways he called around to junkyards and one junkyard had a 86-89 ( i can't remeber what year) integra motor that and they wanted 400 for the motor. So my question is The ZC from japan and the 86-89 integra motors in the US are the same thing or not ???

No its not the same thing. I think those integra engines are called d16a1 i believe. Its weaker than the zc. I think they are like 115 hp or somewhere around there and the zc is like 130 hp. IMO i think he should go for the zc.

The 86-89 Integra motor also DOES NOT bolt into the 88-91 Civic. The motor mounts are in different places. That is why everyone likes the ZC and no one puts in the Integra motor. 10 HP isn't worth it for a motor that needs mounts and stuff to fit.

just to let you know, there are 3 different ZC's to my knowledge
There is a SOHC ZC 120hp
There is a DOHC ZC
and there is a DOHC VTEC ZC, although these are very rare. None were imported to the US and they were rare even in japan
I am sorry I do not have info on my SOHC ZC. It came with the car, it was a replacement for the stock 1.5 which blew due to the previous owner not adding coolant

Thats not true. I never heard of DOHC V-tec ZC ever?
Maybe you're thinking of ZCG? Anyways according to Moppie he said its just a myth term? ZCG is really the b16a SIR.

Of course we listen. Well I do atleast. You are the man when it comes to JDM parts, specs, etc.....
And yeah, I have never heard of a ZC VTEC.

If u get the 88-91 ZC it will bolt right in. All you need is the motor, ur tranny, axles, mounts, and comp. will work. All this is providing that ur friend has a hf or SI. And the Integra engines for the 88-89 year are the same mounts for the 88-91 civic/crx's, the 86-87 integra mounts are the same for the 84-87 civic/crx's. And trust me a ZC is a good way to go for cheap$ replacement but a B16a will beat a ZC's ass in a minute.
The ZC's have 130hp/115lb@ 6800rpm's.
Oh and dont get a USDM motor the ZC's are around 500 and will have way less miles than a US engine.
And there is NO I repeat NO ZC vtec, The ZC's are as follow's:
86-87 ZC: dohc 16v 86-87 JDM Integra
88-91 ZC: Dohc 16v 88-89 JDM integra & 88-91 JDM civic HB 1.6i
92-95 ZC: Dohc 16v & Sohc 16v 92-95 JDM civic DX & some SI's
Hope this helps!

Thats a bit high. The SOHC ZC is more like the D16 out of an Si for our years so it should have about 108 to 110. With mods im sure you can get it that high, but stock isnt 120. When i see a dyno tell me otherwise, its an Si replacement.

I recently bought a 1990 Civic SI with a real nice body and interior (all original, but in great shape) for $700. I had to replace a clutch and flywheel, but otherwise, it was in good mechanical shape. My question is that the guy I got it from said that the engine had been replaced, which it clearly had been. On the valve cover is written " '92 ZC", and the engine is a SOHC. Does anyone know how I can verify this, and if I can just take a DOHC ZC head and bolt it onto the SOHC's block?

There was a Vtec ZC, and the first ZC was in CRX/Civic si's in japan, they were fuel injected 137hp engines. NOT for 84-87 integras, but third gen civic si's and 1st gen crx's. so dont be uninformed

For all you non believers: I own a 1994 Integra ZX. Inside there is a SOHC ZC 1580cc engine. It has VTEC and if you dont believe me, come sit in my car when I hit 5k RPM and tell me it's not VTEC, and that is, if you don't know what a VTEC solenoid looks like. The engine is dual carbeurated and naturally aspirated.
Thanks
Thanks

Haha...another OLD SCHOOL AF member..
BTW - I finally got the ZC running in my sedan this spring...the car sat for over two years in the garage collecting dust. I came back to AF to check in on other old schoolers and see how things were going, and since I was a contributor to this post, I might as well add some more!

Obviously, you don't have an idea what you're doing..
1) Don't bring up old threads.. if you had read the guidelines, you'd know that already.
2) Look on the left side of the exhaust manifold as you're facing it.. do you see a block tag there? If that doesn't say ZC, it's NOT a ZC.. stop calling it something it isn't..
3) If it came out of a US Integra, it's a D16A1. It WILL go in your car, but you're going to have fun getting it there.
4)If the above is the case, find an actual ZC block, and bolt that LS/RS head on it, it's the same thing.
5)If you want more information, the search function works flawlessly.. and if you can't figure out how to use it, post YOUR OWN thread.
Have a nice day.
Christ.
