ok I just moved to Washington, and i had my car was shipped over from California. my car ran fine execpt for the bad idleling, but when i recieved it in Washington my car started making this loud tapping noise coming from the head when you first star the car for lik e 20 seconds and after the car's been ran for like 30 to 40 mins. It kind of sounds like there no oil bein fed to the top of the cylinder head ( it sounded like my sohc when the engine gave out and there was no oil being fed) I might be wrong i dont know. i was just wondering if you guys have any idea of what it might be. I need teh engine to last me another few months so that i can drive to work tilll i can get a replacement for it. has this happend to any of you guys? could this also be caused if the wrong engine oil was put in to it. ( my dad had the car before it was shipped to me and he might have changed the oil in it to a thiker one [20w 50 or 30w 50] i dont know if that might have caused it )

the funy thing is it only does it when it first starts and after like 30 mins other than that it doesn't make that noise and it never did it in Cali.

Bet the oil is way to thick...Pump cant pump oil until engine warms up enough to get the oil thickness down.

You said the Idle was bad? perhaps your Idle is too low to get good pressure to the head and driving it around off Idle gets the pressure up
Perhaps the oil pump is worn and its starting to manifest.
I believe you can run seafoam in oil. what most likely is that theres a clog somewhere in the journals and causing bad pressure to the head... Id look into running a oil with alot of detergents to clean it all up (the only problem with this is that it could move a clog somewhere imortant.

where would i get that oil with detergent at or what is it called? and how much does an oil pump cost? i dont think its the idles the idles are always around 900 and i couldnt get them down when i turned the IACV screw in the back of the intake manifold. i dont think its bad pressure. Im going to change the oil and ill see what happens.

My 240 made a tapping noise around idle. To fix mine I removed the valve cover and there is a timing chain guide bolted right between the cams, if it's still there remove it (it isn't included in the kits anymore). If that doesn't help then good luck man.
