it's been a while... updates

yeah, i've not been on in FOREVER.
updates...
the lude is still in the shop.
been waiting on custom pistons for, oh, just short of FOREVER.

if you remember, i blew the #3 rod bearing in a highway run last november.
doing close to 130, walking all over an orange 4 door accord with chrome rims. guy was driving all over the road to get past me and couldn't.

that motor had 100k+ miles on it, hard driving, seeing 100 daily...

now it's out.
getting these fun parts:

JE 10.5:1 pistons
h23 rods (same dimensions as b20a5, but beefier0
fully balanced rotating assembly
8lb. fidanza flywheel
act clutch
headwork is already done, same w/ the intake manifold
aem fpr
aem cam gears
rc engineering balanced injectors
custom 58mm TB (stock is 54)
dc header
thermal exhaust
coltcams.com cams, awesome grind
(stock is .390 lift, 230ish dur. these cams are 264 duration, .423 lift)
custom valve springs.
once it's dynoed w/stock ecu, i'm going uberdata for the management and moving redline to 7500 from 7200...

also:
new wheels, asa ar1's, black with polished lip
aem big rotors in the front

how's everyone been?

if your gonna be building a engine from the ground up again, why keep it n/a? you rather throttle response then straight up power?

it's fwd.
that's part of the reason i'm staying NA.

turbo is the "cool" thing to do lately.
so a big power na car is just fine by me...

at this point, i could go either way and spend the same money.
i do like the thought of a turbo, but...
i guess i'm just happy with what i've got, and don't want to overpower my front wheels more than they already are...
and with this setup, i should be close to 180whp...

more than enough for me... then the car is done.

then it's time to find something else to build up...
and i think we're adding a 944 to the family soon, so... ;)

Dear god...i was wondering where you went. Welcome back, why dont you stick around this time

So N/A is the new turbo coolness now? Time to swap a 420A Neon engine in then... lol

I owned a 944 and they can get expensive to upkeep.

Sounds like your Prelude is going to be a quick little whip. I see them all the time around me. Most people don't give props to the b20a5 because parts aren't necessarily interchangeable from other b series engines.

I know you're joking but most Honda freaks know that the B20A5 prelude engine is the redheaded stepchild of b series engines and he's lucky he can get the parts he can for it. I've never even seen a custom turbo setup in an old prelude...

Who the hell is this guy?

lol, jk.

Welcome back, sad to hear that you've been waiting for parts for so long. Why the huge delay?

you're not lookin hard enough ;)

preludepower.com
TONS of 3rd gens with turbos, as well as h22 swapped 3rd gens...

i wouldn't call NA the new turbo, but for me, it's a great performing car, and HONESTLY, anyone can slap a turbo on a motor and make power.
i'm making it the "hard" way...

parts are easy to find...
you just have to look...

thermal exhaust...
cams? they're 265, including shipping both ways (regrinds)
pistons, same as other b series in whatever bore you need
rods? same as h23
fidanza's got fly's, as well as other people, clutches are available...

so there's stuff out there, people just don't look...

easy parts, like an intake? hard to find a nice one.
do what i did and get one made ;)

custom is cooler ;)

but yeah...
thanks guys...
i'll be around more...

I was almost starting to miss you. But then you showed up again, and alas, I'm already annoyed your here again...

Glad to hear progress is coming along just fine on the new rebuild, except for the custom pistons. Anyway, hope you stay around for a while.

yeah...
wiseco was making the pistons.
but apparently, they stopped making them.
so we switched to custom JE's a couple weeks back, should be here this week or so...

non-turbo 944...
it's my dad's new toy, and the only thing we're gonna do is put new 911 turbo rims on it... and it's read... tan interior...

hey flywsi, has been a while ha, i actually just killed a cylinder beating a 944 turbo, but i got her fixed vr4 has rebuilt engine and all is good, i'll be bieng nice to the vr4 for a good while. when will the car be done

flylwsi
10-03-2005, 12:06 PM
gee, thanks, jerks.

yeah, it should be out within 3 weeks, pistons are arriving this week, then the mad dash starts.
when it's done, i gotta break it in, then go to the dyno on the stock ecu...
if the power is promising enough, i'm going uberdata (probably going uber anyways over the winter)

but if i can move that redline up a couple hundred revs, i'll get a more useable power band...
we shall see ;)

so the pistons are showing up tuesday.
finally.

NOT the JE set.
the original wiseco 10.5:1 set.
damn.

fast track to complete, should be done by the end of october...

YAY.

flylwsi
11-28-2005, 06:33 PM
ok...
here's the update again.
the pistons are on the rods. yay.

the block, head, IM, all bead blasted.
the block is gloss black.
the head is silver.

bored out .040 for the 81.5mm pistons

rotating assembly is spin balanced and ready to go.

h22 valve springs with stock retainers.

header is matte black now, EGR removed, so it's alot cleaner.

everything is at the shop, and should be together within the week.
finally.

make sure if you get a 944 it's got maintenance records, and the whole lot, cuz if not I hear that those cars are a bitch to fix...

Wow good to see you back, I still remember the bigass "discussion" we had about spoilers on fwd vehicles...very informative...

I expect numerous high-res pics and videos documenting your transformation. Good choice on the ASA AR1's too, I have very similar rims on my bimmer.
