Polishing Compound Brands

From what I gather in the FAQ, Guiddy recommends 5-6 differnet grades of compound, which seems no different than using a sandpaper polishing kit.

So what brand of polisihng compound works best for you? How long does it take for your brand of compound to start working? Post the brand, where you live, and how much you got it for

I use (don't laugh) the old DuPont white compound my Dad used to polish his old muscle cars. :) I've used that quite often along with Bondo's version (both give pretty good results). Anyway, you probably couldn't find those lately, but I'll bet almost anything that Turtle Wax white polishing compound would be almost exactly the same.

Oh... The Turtle Wax compound is about $4 here. I live in Pennsylvania, US.

I bought a can of bondo's white polishing compound to test. Strength is definitely lower than tamiya's.

and it is labeled. Risk of cancer depends on exposure time. Scares the shit of out me.

Tamiya Rubbing Compound is what I use. Cost me 5 bucks and I live in the US. It's a wondercompound!

I use Novus plastic polish on the top coat of Mr Super Clear. Works wonders.

I've never had good results with Gunze's Mr Rubbing Compound. It seems very aggressive and eats through the paint easily.

So how long do you usually have to polish an area of paint before it gets shiny?

This is typical for me at least. I polish for about 3-4 hours. In that time I cover the entire car body, not just one spot. I know that seems extreme, but I got my ITR really, really shiny by doing this.

I use Tamiya Polishing Wax. Costs 11.90 € here, maybe 9 or 19 USD. I live in Ennepetal, NRW, Germany.
