4 Wheel alignment

Under normal circumstances, is 4 wheel alignment necessary or even desirable on a 02' T&C, or is it just another cash cow for mechanics? The manual does not mention it but when talking with a mechanic, whom we aren't familiar with as having just moved to this area, he suggested it be done, for only $20 more of course.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks.

On a front drive vehicle the four wheel alignment is a good idea. It will help to reduce wear on the tires and make the vehicle drive better. They are not required each time you have one aligned but they are worth the money if the van hasn't been lined up in a while.

Thanks for the guidance. Since the 4 wheel alignment hasn't been done as yet we will have it taken care of.
Thanks again........

alot of times, a car won't take a 4 wheel alignment
like in the case of my car. a 99 caravan with FWD, the rear wheels can't be adjusted because it doesn't have independant suspension

They adjust the rear alignment by loosening the hubs (4 bolts) and inserting shims.

Thank you all for the info.
I will now be able to ask how 4 wheel alignment is done on vehicles like ours, without rear independent suspension, and see what answer I get. Credibility check time for the mechanic.
