Oil Leak at the back of Head

Looking for assistance. I have been trying to stop an oil leak that seems to be coming from a small plate at the back of the head on my 1991 535I. I have replaced the valve cover gasket numerous times in hopes of stopping the leak. My question is... Do you have to remove the head to get to the small plate at the back of the head. There is limited space between the back of the head a the fire wall. Or are there special tools needed to get the 5 or 6 bolts off to replace the gasket. If anyone can help me, I would greatly appreciate it.
