First Car?

Alright yall... if you read my last thread.. i couldn't decide between a civic or a mustang.

as of now... my life is just weirdin out on me..
so i wanted to know what car do yall think a 16 year old should get for 9k or less

An 86 Accord. Seriously though a 16 year old needs something slow, cheap, wreckable, and has affordable insurance. The Civic would be a much better choice unless you were looking at a V6 Mustang, and even still a Civic is a better choice.

'94-'01 Acura Integra would be a good first car.

They're cheap, reliable, fuel efficient and have tons of aftermarket parts if you wanna make it faster.

insuring an integra costs twice as much as comparable cars.

I'd suggest a Focus, Saturn, or Sentra.

I was looking at a V6 mustang...but my mom wants to "talk about cars this weekend" so that can't be all that good..

If I were you, I'd concentrate more on 4cyl cars because of the gas prices. Fuel efficiency is gonna become a big factor really soon, so I'd stay away from 6 & 8 cylinder cars. Just my :2cents:

just get a civic thats in decent shape, those cars are great on gas, insurance, and their parts are cheap.

if you are looking for something a little bit bigger, the first generation Nissan Altima is a great first car. Its built like a tank, and the KA24 can take a beating. I bought a 93 altima in mint condition for 1500 dollars, so im sure for 9k, youll be able to to find something very nice.

V6 Mustangs get good gas mileage if you can stand to keep your foot out of it, they get pretty lousy gas mileage if you're flooring it around town all day. The only bad thing about the V6 mustang is that the back seat is pretty useless, but that's the way it is on a lot of 2 doors.

Actually, I'd get a Dodge Shadow still in good shape. Why? They're extremely cheap for parts, extremely easy to work on (the head gasket can be changed in about 20 minutes), very crashworthy, not too powerful (but they'll still keep up with traffic), very cheap on insurance, quite reliable, roomy, handle and ride nice, and when you do have your first accident...oh, well. Hopefully, you'll be fine, and you won't be crying over the car because it probably only cost you a couple of grand at most. Bank the other $7k you would have put towards a car for the replacement of the Shadow when you've had enough driving experience under your belt.

I myself owned a 2 door with a spoiler, and it looked very sporty. Very reliable, it still ran good and clean when I sold it with over 260,000 km on the odometer.

Perhaps a bit dated by today's standards, but still a good bet for a 16 year old if you can get one in good shape for a good price.
