I just recently purchased a 1991 cutlass ciera. In the deck of the car it contains the original factory radio w/o any tape player. So I went to bestbuy and purchased an AM/FM/CD receiver. I don't know how to install it and that is why I came to this forum for help. Can anyone asisst me with installing a am/fm cd receiver in a 1991 cutlass cierra?

I think it might be a bit difficult for someone to explain how to install a "AM/FM/CD receiver" without knowing anything else about it (brand, model, etc..) Hopefully you have a friend that might be able to help, otherwise you might want to go back and have BB install it for you.

I have had 2 of these things (93 was my first car and a 95 that I use for a daily driver now) and put CD players in both.
Best bet is to go get a mounting kit from Best Buy or walmart as well as the wiring adapter for this vehicle. The wires will be color coded and marked so you can simply match the wires up, solder or connector them, and mount it.
By far the easiest way to go.

I already purchased something called the car stereo installation kit and the car stereo wire harness.

Yup. thats what you need. Just unplug the existing one, and plug that adapter with the new stereo's wiring kit attached to it in.

So you want to install this yourself, great! Check out www.the12volt.com and become a member. You can also check out www.installdr.com
Two, your going to need the right stuff for YOUR particular car(my friends had a 93 and a 89). Your basic phillips and flathead screwdrivers, plus a T10, T15, and T20 Torx type screwdrivers or bits. And you will also need either a 7mm socket or nut driver, a 8mm/ 5/16in socket or nutdriver and a 10mm socket or nutdriver. You will also need a pair of diagonal wire cutters(dykes), wire strippers and a crimp tool.
For the install you will need blue or red solderless crimp connectors, you can buy these at Wal-Mart down the Automotive electrical isle. I prefer blue, but if the wires are smaller than 16ga you can go red which fits wire 18-22ga(higher the number-smaller the wire). You will need about 20-30 of them since this is your first time. You should only need 15-maximum. You, of course, will also need the install kit(wal-mart) and the interface harness(wal-mart), that is unless you WANT to hard wire the stereo to the car, and that sucks.
That car should have three factory connectors at the back of the radio. All three will plug into the interface harness, unless there is a separate white connector for the clock.
Interfacing the stereo harness to the interface harness should be a piece of cake. Just match the wire colors together, strip the insulation back on each wire so that about 5/16in worth of wire is showing. Insert the wire into one end of a butt splice and crimp down so that the metal inside the splice securely crimps down on the wire. Do the same for the opposite side of the splice. Same goes for every wire.
Hope you have fun, Good Luck -Chris

By the way, I don't know if you bought one of those harnesses that is a DIRECT plug in. This means you wouldn't have to strip or crimp anything. These harnesses are usually sold by Circuit City and Best Buy. They cost a few bucks more. All you would have to do is plug one end into the stereo you bought and then plug the cars factory connectors into the other end. I just don't know what you bought.
