I have a 97 explorer xlt 4x2.
the check engine light is on,and it stalls when coming a stop or light, this also happent when cold(idle rough).
i already read many threads and i've noticed that could be the TPS(or something like that).
oh i didnt take it to check the codes,my bad:(

Easy check is your air intake duct. if it's sucking air from someplace other than the air filter(check your air filter also) then you can get a rough ride. Look for cracks or poor seal in duct to manifold. IAC valve is another easy check.

The Idle Air Control Valve is the most likely culprit. It sits on top of the intake manifold (silver in color) with an electrical connector on one end and two bolts securing it to the manifold. Costs about $77 from the dealer or about $55 from NAPA. This will cause the Check Engine Light to come on and I have replaced one on my 99 Mountaineer and a 95 Taurus. This valve is very problematic as is the DPFE sensor on Ford engines.
