CRX SIR help

i recently crashed my 90 civic LX. i love 4g's and i found a crx si with an sir engine in it. I was just wondering..what are the type of things i should look at to know if i'm getting a decent engine? I mean, from what i can see it's a great car, engine only has 85k on it. What other aspects should i consider when buying? the chassis, interior and everything seems to be fine. I'm just skeptical about the engine, i just don't want an engine that could blow right after i buy it. also..will crx wheel wells fit 17x7 with low pros?

Welcome... As long as there is no rust you should be fine. The sunroof usually screws up so make sure it's perfect. If the engine is a b16 (SiR) obd0 and was installed right with no codes or messed up sensors and the belts were replaced along with the waterpump it should more than likely be fine. The ys1 trannies tend to grind from what I've heard. GL

Two things you should always do when buying a used car:

Compression test: Tells you the condition of the engine. If the compression is off, then it could be several things.

Screwed valve.
Head Gasket.
Rings are screwed.
Timing is wrong.
Valve train.


If the compression test goes bad but you are still considering buying the car, then do a leakdown test.

Leakdown test: Can tell you were the compression test went wrong.

Take off the rad cap, then do the leakdown test. If rad fluid sprays out or bubbles, then its the head gasket. Also, see if you hear some noise in the adjacent cylinder. This is also a blown head gasket.

Listen to the exhaust manifold or pipe. If you hear nosie, then it's the exhaust valve.

Listen to the bottom of the engine. If you hear noise, then it's the rings.
