Hi, someone please help !!
I got my front O2 sensor replaced today and the mechanic found a 2-3 inch crack in the exhaust manifold . He says that the manifold & the catalytic converter need replacement and quoted total of $900 :(.
Is it safe to drive around with this crack in the manifold ? He also mentioned that the O2 sensor may go bust again becaues of this.
What is the cheapest and best way to get this done ? I need to go for a 800 mile trip next month end, so wanted to be sure before driving.
My car details :
2000 Honda Civic VP 4 Dr Sedan
Trans : auto
94K miles ( does Honda normally have a warranty on this ? )

Actually its $640 for the parts and rest in labor & tax.
I am not a do-it-yourselfer and am new to cars so I have to rely on a mechanic doing all this job.

Or get someone to weld it. My A'PEXi GT header had a crack around the hanger underneath the car. My sponsor just welded it shut and good as new.

I have been thinking of the same thing(getting it welded).
These mechanics can be a rip off sometimes. They don't even suggest that it can be welded. My head just blew when he gave a quote of $900.
I'm searching for someone to do the welding. Hope to find someone at the muffler shops.
Thanks Superblue & CivicSiRacer !

I have a 97 EX that I got new in 97. A few years back, maybe 3 or 4, I got a letter from Honda stating that there was a recall on that and I needed to bring it in. Mine was cracked at the time and I was saving to get it fixed. The dealer changed the O2 sensor and the manifold free of charge with the recall and I have never had a problem since. I believe it may have been 4 years ago. I don't know if the recalls expire or what, but I would check into it. The recall is not for the owner that purchased the car, but for the car itself, no matter if you purchased it second hand or new.

I called the honda customer service and they didnt have any recalls for my VIN.
I am trying to get it welded. I hope it works out. I am new to this place so I don't know many people around here. Otherwise the beer idea sounds cool :)
Gotta settle with 80$ per hour labor charges, if they can weld it. Its way better than $900 shock that I got initially.
thanks guys.
