I have a 1987 Toyota tercel wagon 4x4. When I get going on the highway, the steering starts to shake like mad. It eventually stops, but I can't figure out what it could be. Any suggestions?

Check your balljoints up front. They are prolly bad.

it could be anything up front, but easiest and most likely would be wheel balance...then ball joints, tie rods, axles, etc.

Take it in for a full wheel alignment, and check power steering fluid if you have power steering that is.

As mentioned above, if could be anything related to your suspension, but most commonly if its ball joints, you would also hear a clicking sound. Could also be your wheel bearings, if you hear rubbing during turning.

Most likely cause is if wheels are not aligned, and pulling apart thus the vibration at higher speeds. See your owner's manual for tire wear patterns, and it may help you determine how your alignment may be off.
