99 Altima odometer & trip meter stopped

The odometer and trip meter in my 99 Altima just stopped turning for no apparent reason yesterday. I checked the fuses marked "meter" and "electric" and they are fine. I read somewhere else that if you don't fix things like this quickly the car becomes tagged as TMU (true mileage unknown) and makes it worthless for resale or trade-in. We're stationed in Germany with the Army so I don't even know if there's a Nissan dealership around here that I can call to ask what might be causing this or get a quote or something (plus I don't speak German yet). What I'd really like is instructions or pictures on how to fix this myself if possible. Help!

The VSS Vehicle Speed Sensor is the part that sends a signal to turn the speedo, odometer, and trip meter. Bad electrical connections at the VSS plug or behind the dash are also possibilities. Does your speedometer still work? The VSS is in the transmission near the starter and passenger side axle and easy to replace after the car is jacked up. Manual transmisions use a different VSS than automatic transmissions. Shipping from RockAuto may be the most economical.

I have similar problem
The speedometer is working but odometer stopped.
