Oil Catch

Hi Everyone,
Working on an accord yesterday. I guess it's the 2.2 SOHC. Amoung other things, we changed the oil pan gasket. Why in the procedures does it say to remove the oil catch. It just didn't make sense really. I would of taken it off and looked at it or cleaned it or something but we ended up leaving it. The owner really didn't want to remove the 4 10mils hahaha. Does anyone know why?
