Put a junk yard tranny in my 95 2 dr Tahoe 3 months ago and it run great. Had 70,000 miles on it. Today it blew out all the fuild from the vent tube. It was not overfilled and ran great till I went up a mountion and I smelled it and saw smoke out the back. Coasted down to the bottom checked, no fluid on the dip stick. Little Mon and Pop store only had 3 qts, I spilled half that trying to get it in hole with no funnel. would go in first gear but wouldn't shift. Called the roll back got it home. What would cause it to blow out like that?

Thanks, Staledale

Does the dipstick have the lever on it to lock it?

I bought my 90 GMC K1500 truck new. After a year or two, GM sent me a new tranny dipstick with a lever to lock it. Something about blowing the dipstick out of the tube when towing.

I assume you have refilled the tranny. How is it now?

Yes it has the locking dip stick. No I haven't tried to refill it yet. Spent all day on the road and the tow home, it will wait till the morning. Hope it isn't toast.

thanks Staledale

It might not be a bad idea to pull the pan and look for signs of failure (chunks of metal). Hopefully, everything will be fine.

Maybe the dipstick was not locked when it blew off?

Good luck.

Got any butter? It's toast.......... The fluid came out the vent that has the 16" rubber hose on it. No fluid on dipstick yesterday, running or stopped. This morning, cold it is way over full, Death rattle when starting, quites down a little, no noise in any gear. Will not try to move. The death rattle sounds like ball bearings in a dryer. But no noise in gear. Again no fuild yesterday, too much today, where was it hiding? It needs replaced no matter what, just odd real odd.

Thanks anyway
