how many miles?
did the seller(s) have records/receipts?
did you drive it home, or have it towed???
are there any stickers/emblems in the front hood area, or rear engine compartment, that shows a GM recall campaign service?
any body or frame damage?
as precise as you can be assists others in helping you via the web (or phone) as we are not there, don't hear it, can't drive it...
Fieros are VERY reliable, somewhat cramped on ocassion to work on, but all-in-all fun to drive, easy to service, and excellent gas mileage.

...sorry, long day at work.
the 2.8L GM is a very reliable work horse from 80s through the early 90s, and a manual will allow better fuel economy, and more torque if needed on demand. being a hydraulic clutch, and what GM refers to as a "zero tolerence" bearing structure, be sure to do services.
my little 6 in my S10 is TBI, but has never been opened, has over 175K on the odometer, and no major leaks, and is running strong, getting 26-33mpg. the Fiero can possibly accomplish 38, depending on driver, daily route, A/C, etc.
since you have records, just peruse them and see if anything's been neglected, or done more than once. either of these clues could assist in further maintenance issues.
the stickers up front could probably just be jack and tire stowage, but it could also be prior owners converted to R134a A/C rather than R12 (which was stock), and since it was driven home, this is a VERY good sign, since they felt confident enough to not point out any major issues.

sounds like with minor $ for upkeep; enjoy your first car!

3. an American vehicle (nothing against imports), which means cost will be lower to maintain, and GM interchangability will allow some swaps and performance upgrades that won't kill the bank account.
