metallic silver always so matt?

Ive gone over 2 coats on a CLK DTM body, and I figure there is no way I can wet spray the metallic silver ( too thick ). Curiosity got to me and I tried it on a spare ruined body, and damn the thing flooded the lines.

I had that same problem with my CLK-GTR...
That was my first model, and then i couldn't afford clear coat.

I think you'll find that most (if not all) metallic paints require a *light* rub-down with very fine (1200) wet'n'dry (note: light rub-down, not to the plastic again :rolleyes: ), then a few coats of clear lacquer.

This gives you a nice, shiny finish that's just right for decalling...

Metallic colors always need more work to get a good finish.
I give mine a good rub with pubbing compound to get a good finish.
You still never end up with a nice deep gloss though

ok today I tried rubbing on the roof after sanding 1200grit. result was lousy with a darker shade of grey rather than silver met.

I guess I will have to settle with lacquer finish with exterior gloss ( no inner coat reflection so no mirror effect ).

Just be sure not to clearcoat that particular coat of paint. That "dark grey" area you're talking about is staining, I think. I've had that happen a couple times. It won't go away with clearcoat.

a little help beats no help at all.

I'll be respraying b4 clearcoating. that was just a test rub.

Don't worry about the darker grey spots. It means that 1200 grit was flatter than the original paint coat. (like flat red looks darker than gloss red) It'll go away with the clear coat.
