More then the driveshaft clunk

Yes I have that issue, I'm determined to somehow fix it but everyone says I can't. For the hell of it I changed my u-joints the other weekend, and I noticed have at least 1/4" play in the yoke at the rear, is that normal (normal considering in the "lash" problem) or is that way too much? Lately, when I pull out from a dead stop, the truck starts to go, I get about 2ft and I get this noise coming from somewhere from the tranny to the rear that, well I can't compare it to anything else but the sound of a horn beeping. It's not as loud as a horn but damn if it doesn't sound like one. When it does it I can slightly feel something slip for a second and then I'm ok. Followed by a normally rough bump shift from 1st to 2nd. Anyone else ever hear this or deal with this problem?
I'm about to rip out the transmission and everything else back to the rear axle and put in new stuff, I just can't learn to live with it.

What is this headlight conversion kit you have?

I had it installed in under two minutes (1:30 consisted of removing the headlight) and it's worked great ever since, sweet cheap improvement.

I pulled up to the house to unload and everytime I lifted a box off the truck it would honk a little bit. So it makes me think it would be spring / shock related.

I sometimes think it may be a spring/shock thing because I noticed it gets louder when you are pulling out on an uneven surface or your wheels falls into a dip as you begin to accelerate. Only thing that dims that thought in my head is it does it when you are flat too, and you can feel something slip. Someone told me they had this problem and took the truck to their dealer and they replaced a seal on the yoke back at the rear, I'm about to stop in and see...

I too get the same clunk. Gm told me that this was a "natural" sound from the driveline. 6 months into owning the truck (2002 chev/5.3L) the tranny went south (26000kms). Tranny was fixed at GM/warranty. Same noise. @ 84000kms tranny#2 goes south. Rebuild the tranny else where, I still get the clunk, especially when the truck has been running for a while. And to make a long story short, after the 4l60e self destructed for the third time, I put in a bear reaction shell and other upgraded parts - the drive line "clunk" is even louder than before.

I haven't been able to isolate the noise, but I think its from the tranny, not the u-joints.

Here's what I found out. The slip yoke into the trans is loose and should be replaced with the nickel coated one. The 2 to 3 bang or clang comes from the #2 clutch not releasing. The little slip you feel between 1-2 is due to the torque management. Also if you feel what you think is a slip or just a thump from the rear, check your springs. I had a '94 k1500 blazer and every so often it would bang or feel like something slipped or moved. Turned out to be the leaf springs. Hope this helps a little. I spoke with a bunch of GM mechanics and this is what they came up with.

What was wrong with the leaf springs?

when I would start out the springs opened a tiny bit. The rear would twist just minimal. Bottom line is I put something similar to drag bars on it. Then when the rear would torque the bars stopped it by pushing against the frame. Worked great as a street truck, not recommended for off road. the springs can't travel as far. I've seem summit racing has something along the same line.
