How many of you have installed a remote start unit in your truck? What brands are good and who should I avoid?

I have a Viper alarm system which also has the remote start on it. I havent had any problems with it. I like it because it has a 2 way remote that blinks and beeps to tell me that it actually DID start up.

I had one and had to have it removed as it conflicted with the trucks electronics, namely ECU. It was a quality brand name unit too. Namely it wouldn't start at times. Dealer blamed it on remote strat, Installer blamed it on Truck. Neither could fix it. I took it out as a last resort, any many dollars later, and no problems since. Towing bills can add up real quick when your stranded. Owners manual doesn't reccomend them and now I see why.

I have a Code Alarm made by audiovox, they also make prestige alarms, that I have had for a year and a half now. The only problem had nothing to do with the remote start, They had the impact sensor turned up way to high, turned it down and no problems since. I love it to death and wont have another vehicle without it. Espically if you live in a hot or cold climate. I work in texas and live in washington state. Can get it cooled off in the summer and heated up in the winter.

i have a viper and it works great and never had a problem. i install python alarms all the time and they are good. DEI is the best on the market in my opinion. www.directed.com

My first Silvy I put a bulldog on it myself and it was a pain in the A$$, I had to buy a bypass for the PASSLOCK and I bought the wiring adapter to make it easy and I had to modify it so it would fit. Then on my next one I took it to a Truck shop and had them install one. I think it was an Audiovox and I had no problems with it.

The only problem I had with mine was when I first got it installed... The deuche bag at Best Buy forgot to disable my factory alarm system when he put in the Viper. Therefore, whenever I wuld unlock my truck with the viper...the horn and headlights would start goin off. And when I used the factory one, the alarm started going off. I only had to deal with that for a day.

I'm not really interested in having the alarm. If you read my post in another thread I think they are an annoying waste of time and money. I am just interested in the remote start for the coming winter at 4400' when the windchill is around -20 in the mornings lol.

Yup go with viper or clifford. (both are owned by DEI I believe).

As with anything an alarm/starter/sound system anything really, is only as good as the installers. One of the big things to watch for is the use of quick taps on the wiring. A good install will be all soldered and hidden no quick taps anywhere.

I have a viper 790 with pager, battery backup, hidden sirens, etc. have had no problems what-so-ever.
