Please help me, Engine Swap 3.2l

Ok, I have a 1996 Isuzu Rodeo, with a 3.2l engine. It has a spun rod bearing. So I bought another motor out of a passport. It was suppose to be out of a 1997 Honda Passport. However it has a coil pack and some other different stuff, I think it is a 95 or older motor.

The motor that I bought and the motor I am replacing are about identical, I used a majority of stuff off my old motor and they swapped no problem.

Now here is my problem, now I that the swap is made, my replacement motor isn't getting any spark. My mechanic thinks it is the crankshaft, he thinks it is different and sends a different signal to the sensor, and confusing it, and he is stuck on what to do. He told me to search on the internet and there isn't a lot of information on this motor.


So Please help me, I don't know what to do and I am vehicleless until I get this running. Thanks in advance.

FWIW - the late 95.5 model year Rodeo I had the luxury of owning for 2 days also had the 3.2L V6 - supposedly the same engine as my current 3.2L V6 on the 97.

However, when I popped that hood, there were a lot of different things in that bay that my 97 doesn't have.

Curious to know how many miles you had on the 96 engine, was it ran low on oil??

If you swapped everything over from your old engine, you shouldn't have a problem. Did you swap the crank sensor? I looked up a crank sensor for a 94 and one for a 97 and they are definatly different.

^ It had around 160k on it. The road I was going up was steep, and I was pushing it too hard, and then the engine started a terrible knock. It may have been low on oil.

the reluctor wheel on the crankshaft is different. The 96-97 3.2L has a reluctor wheel with 58 teeth on it.The 93-95 3.2L has a 7 tooth wheel, you need to find a 96-97.

Do they make an adapter or signal convertor for the sensor for this type of swap? It would save a great deal of work. My mechanic is thinking about having the reluctor wheel out of my 96 motor machined to fit on the main pulley and mount the sensor there.

The reluctor wheel is machined into the crankshaft so I don't see any way to move it. As far as doing anything with the sensor itself you still have the problem of not enough nothes in the reluctor wheel, pretty much all you can do is find a correct engine or short block for it.
