If anyone can help me out i would greatly appreciate it. i just wanna know how i can drop a 350 into my 91 rs 305 t.b.i and still manage to pass a smog check. i noticed a lot of people on here with 350 crate engines in newer camaros. are smogs that easy to pass or what?

Doesnt the smog check consist of the exhaust? Because if thats what they check then yeah it will pass, just got to buy a cat that can pass Cali emissions.

Aside from smog, you can't use certain corvette engines in your street legal camaro or anything that it fits in, which I think is a load of bull but I read it somewhere. Can someone back me up on this? One is the LS6.

What do you mean? An engine is an engine as long as the exhaust is restrictive enough for it to pass emissions..

he may be able to pass smog but can he pass a state inspection. i know some states are strict about engine swaps.

Well as long as everything is in working order, it shouldnt matter, right? I mean thats why there is an inspection.

Regardless of an inspection, of the emission regulations I am familiar with, you have to pass standards for your vehicle set by the year it was produced, and the fuel delivery system it was produced with (i.e. the acceptable standards for an '85 carbed Camaro will be less stringent than a '91 with TBI. So, you drop in a carbed 350, it may pass on an '85, but not a '91. If you live in California, I guarantee you will not pass with a carb. Not to getcha down, but something to consider before you toss a bunch of money at something you can't use.

ts all crap. the test is determined by the engine you have, not the body. In other words you AirCare the motor. And what they look for is unburnt fuel!
there's a whole bunch of ways you can cheat on the test.

1 More exhaust leaks
2 Higher octane
3 Leaner engine (on carb its easily done). And on fuel injection cars can be done in many ways.
4 EGR is a must
5 Valve lash
6 A new quality converter for emissions only (or two in-line if to go extreme)
7 Loose weight
8 Performance ignition system that burns all fuel such as MSD
9 And of course good compression.

They test for the engine running rich (and believe me they give you lots of slack and the margin is pretty big for passing)

last time I have done this on my 2.8f I had zero or very close to zero CO reading. (keep in mind it was a high mlg engine too)

Engines that wont pass are either very worn with low compression, or running too rich, or have no catalytic converter.

Also you can find a buddy with the same kinda car and trade the vin numbers for a day!!! or just pay someone.
