I bought an 89 camaro rs last year which was in nearly mint condition. I store it for the winters and went out there one morning to start it up to keep fluids moving, and found someone had tried to steal it. They busted up my steering col. and the ignition cyl. is toast. I never have tackled a project like this before, and could use some advice. I can take care of most of the mechenical problems they left me, (when they couldn't get it started, they opened the hood and started ripping the engine apart!) but this is foreign to me, and I miss my baby. I want to do it right. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

well first things first, what all did they mess up (column wise)? If the only thing they did was to cut wires then it should be simple to solder the wires back together since they are color coded then use heat shrink to finish the installation. Under the hood is a different story. The electrial systems aren't that complex on an earlier model camaro so you should be able to identify most of the parts and connections. If you are just the slightest bit mechanically inclined then I suggest you go buy a Chilton manual to help you with the underhood problems.
