Pressure control solenoids in these transmissions are famous for failure. They're tough to get to, but pretty cheap online (gmpartsdirect.com part# 10478146).

We bought a 99 LS 2.4 used in June 2002.
In 2003, the transmission started slipping when it shifted from 1st to 2nd, so in September we had it into the dealer for repair.
Anyway, the remedy was:
Remove & Fully Disassemble transmission. Found forward clutch piston torn. Direct clutch piston leaking. Replace forward & direct clutch pistons, shift solenoids, PCS solenoid, and trans fluid pressure switch.
The car was fine for a year and a half until the slipping started again.
Had it back in September this year.
Remove valve body & found torque signal valve sticking in for & debris in TFPS & PCS valve screens. Recondition valve body. Replace trans fluid pressure switch & pressure control valve.
In both repairs, they replaced VALVE SOL #10478146 and SWITCH AS 24226580.
Immediately after picking the car up, when you shift from P to D when cold, the car lurches forward violently.
I ended up taking it back today, and they re-programmed the PCM with a revised Calibration File for cold starts.
I just want to make sure that when my warranty runs out, that I won't have another big repair!
Anyway, sorry for hijacking your post, and I hope some of what has happened to me helps.
